Suzie May

Suzie Edward May brings experience in both law and health reform to the LINEAGE project. She is a researcher and writer with the University of Western Australia (WA) law school, where she has worked on large law reform projects in criminal justice and public health law for over a decade. Suzie has also worked on strategic policy and reform with the Law Reform Commission of WA, the WA Department of Justice and the WA Inspector of Custodial Services.

Suzie has been a state, national and international consumer advocate and advisor in chronic disease, rheumatology, systemic health reform, and integrated care since 2002. She has sat in governance roles in large public health services and on boards of not for profit and health professional organisations.

She is a consumer advisor on the PICO Advisory Sub-Committee of the Medical Services Advisory Committee, Commonwealth Department of Health, in the health technology assessment process; and an Expert Panelist developing the Australian Living Guidelines for the Pharmacological Management of Inflammatory Arthritis.

Suzie was a former Welfare Officer in an acute inpatient adult mental health service; and has lectured in medical schools in WA for almost 20 years on the lived experience of chronic disease and rheumatology; health system navigation; and health professional/patient relationships.
